The Guild of Thieves
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
The Guild of Thieves is an award winning classic text adventure game released by Magnetic Scrolls in 1987.
Remastered by Strand Games for 2017
You are an aspiring member of the infamous Guild of Thieves whose legendary exploits and daring deeds pervade Kerovnian folklore. For the test assignment, you have been challenged to ransack a castle, the surrounding area and even the Bank of Kerovnia itself of all valuables. Are you up to it? Frankly we doubt it.
Magnetic Scrolls was a British video game developer active between 1984 and 1990. A pioneer of audio-visually elaborate text adventure games. It was one of the two largest and most acclaimed interactive fiction developers of the 1980s.
The original game has been remastered and improved by Stand Games (with
permission) and adapted for modern PCs and mobiles, with a vastly improved UI.
Features include:
- Touch-Text Commands
Tap "links" in the text to perform commands without typing.
- Game specific word suggestion
Tap suggested words from the word bar during input to save time.
- Sidebar Inventory
All your things are conveniently listed in a sidebar. Drag and drop to use them or to apply them to things in the main text.
- Dynamic Map
No need to draw out the map, we do it for you. As you explore the game, the map page will expand. Tap any previous room on the map to "fast-goto" that location.
- Quickly navigate with a handy compass gadget. It shows the available exits at all times, simply tap to move.
The new facilities make the original game fun and entertaining to play on modern devices. No more dead ends; the remaster has multi-level undo, save/load game and automatic undo from dying!
There's also the original artwork, the animated artwork and new music from the original artist John Molloy (thanks John!).

Support the Remastering Project
After fees, we get only about £1 from each sale. We're working to restore original game content, source code and documents and hopefully to develop and share new IF technologies. See our blog for details of our progress.
Thanks for your support!

When launch, game shows intro, plays music and does nothing. When I click mouse button, it just freezes and doesn't respond.
Are you running the windows verson or mac?
Win version on Windows 10
ok thanks. sorry for the delay, itch was down.
Are you able to click on anything at all. for example the "thumb" part of the picture roller? this normally will unfurl the picture. Also there should be a sidebar with things to click on. can you click on those?
Ah. that's assuming you get past the title picture. Does the title ripple? while the music is playing?
No, it all happens during title picture. Music is playing and there are ripples but nothing else happens and when I click on picture of thief on boat - game freezes. It doesn't respond.
That's extremely weird. The game uses the graphics card GPU. Maybe you have old graphics drivers. Do you have DXDiag. If you do, maybe run that and see what your graphics hardware is like.
Hi! Thanks for your feedback. Short answer: yes. We're remastering all the game in chronological order, so it will be Jinxter next. Eventually we hope to get around to Wonderland. Although, chances are that we won't be remaking "magnetic windows", but running the game within our new UI. Nevertheless, if new graphic widgets are needed, we'll do them.
I loved this game! Do you guys have any plans on remastering Wonderland too?
